Is Cori Bush Doing Her Job? (Part 2)

The New York Post recently reported that Cori Bush has claimed to be a faith healer.  This item was not well-covered in the press but certainly has been a topic of conversation around town.

The source for this story was identified as none other than Ms. Bush’s own memoir, The Forerunner, published in 2022.

Faith Healer or Congresswoman?

As the report spread, many openly mocked Bush for her claim.  But others acknowledged that most major religions recognize miracles. Who is to say that Ms. Bush was not an instrument in a miracle?

In either case, the question begins to develop:  What is the job of the congressperson from Missouri’s 1st district?  Is it faith-healer?

There can be no doubt that many residents in the first congressional district need some help.

Consider the following census data for Bush’s congressional 1st District:

  • 17.7% of all residents live below the poverty line, including a whopping 28% of all children in the district.

  • 40% of her constituents live in areas of concentrated poverty.

Housing is frequently sub-standard and in short supply.

Bush Fails to Deliver for Her District – Again!

And then there is the nuclear waste that many CD1 residents live with and upon.  Some 80-years ago, when the USA was building nuclear weapons, large quantities of radioactive nuclear waste were dumped in North St. Louis County.

An intrepid citizens group—Just Moms STL—has toiled for 10 years to get the federal government to take responsibility for clean-up.  They also want the federal government to compensate victims who became ill — and even died — because of the environmental disaster.

Despite the valiant efforts of Just Moms STL and others, the latest attempt to bring justice to these victims died when House Speaker Mike Johnson did not allow the legislation to come to the House floor for a vote.  In fact, Speaker Johnson refused to even meet with the St. Louis advocates, a group that included Senator Hawley, Just Moms STL, and … wait for it … Representative Cori Bush.

Representative Bush fancies herself as a flamboyant advocate for the neediest in her district.  She impulsively began a sit-in on the Capitol steps to force President Biden to protect renters during the Covid crisis.

But where is she today when the cameras aren’t rolling, and there’s hard work to be done like securing the federal funds needed to renovate the 2,600 government-owned housing units for occupancy? The thousands of low-income and disabled residents in the area on waiting lists for these properties would love to know.

She also immediately aligned herself with the Squad in Congress a far-left radical group and voted against some of President Biden’s most important initiatives in a (misguided?) effort to get his attention.

Whether a faith healer or a member of Congress, Bush has failed to deliver for the people in her district who need help.

The debate is interesting and important.  What is the job of the Congressional representative from Missouri’s 1st Congressional District?  What do you think?

Call Cori Bush’s office at 202-225-2406 or 314-955-9980 and tell her.
